An approach addressing the multiple dimensions of food security with transparent indicators that are consistent with internationally
accepted food security concepts.
CARI is a method used to analyze and report on the level of food security within a population.
When CARI is used, each household surveyed is classified in one of the four food security categories (see table below).
This classification is based on the current state of household food security (using food consumption indicators) and
on its adaptive capacity (using indicators measuring economic vulnerability and depletion of assets).
